BitFilter

The purpose of the programme development is to provide easy and flexible control over Internet traffic. The administrator hence controls fully, which user has access to which content on the Internet, at all times.

BitFilter is licensed by the Federal Agency for the Protection of Minors in the Media (formerly: Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons, German: Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien, BPjM) and filters all particularly dangerous Internet content using the official list. Once the software has been installed, this provides the computer with outstanding basic protection and regular updates of the list compiled by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons.

In addition, the administrator is provided with full flexibility for blocking and/or approving other Internet content selectively via:

  • Domain names.
  • IP addresses.
  • Words that are not allowed to appear on this website.
  • Option to enable and disable lists through our time management system according to the schedule.
  • Setting the filter protection to the age limits required by law: 6 years–12 years–16 years–18 years.
  • Bundling of different filters into lists and categorising by age groups.
Modern protection of minors is simple, safe, and flexible.
The Youth Protection Act, amended as of May 1, 2021, is the basis for implementing four major innovations in youth protection:

Internet services relevant to children and young people are obliged to take appropriate and effective structural precautions to protect the personal integrity of those.

The regulation on age ratings … will be modernised and will again offer reliable and comprehensible orientation for parents, professionals, children and young people themselves. Film and game platforms to be accessed online must provide their content with age ratings that have been created on a transparent basis.

The new Youth Protection Act enables consistent law enforcement, even against providers based in other countries than Germany. In a first step, providers are given a sufficient opportunity to make improvements using a dialogue-based procedure. However, if this procedure fails, this may finally result in fines of up to 50 million euros.

The former Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons will be transformed into the Federal Agency for the Protection of Minors in the Media. The Federal Agency for the Protection of Minors in the Media will be given additional powers, i.e., to act preventively and interveningly (through fines). In addition, new staff members will also join the Federal Agency for the Protection of Minors in the Media. 37 additional openings are planned to be filled in 2021.

Our BitFilter protection programme is primarily intended to support preventive and active protection of minors on the Internet, effectively but also for a reasonable price, and thus make the Internet safer for our children and teenagers. The combination of simple operation and effective defence against age-inappropriate content is our concept!
